Thanks to
tears_of_nienna's LiveJournaling yesterday, I decided to play Battle for Middle Earth 2 last night (and conquered all the lands).
In the final battle that actually took place at Minas Morgul, I spotted one of my AI allies had a hero unit in battle and I was so amused I had to take a screenshot.

So the New Republic 5th Fleet is 10 years old today. I wasn't around at the very beginning (I joined February 2001), I doubt many fanclubs make it this far so I feel glad to be part of something that has lasted so long.
To celebrate, I created a little something and thought I'd share:

As I watched this broadcast, I felt like banging my head on my desk at the stupidity of these people. While it's not about this specific situation, here's quote that fit's the situation perfectly.
"As Harlan says, you're not entitled to your opinion, you're entitled to your INFORMED opinion. If you haven't bothered to be informed about something, to be properly educated -- in this case by seeing the thing you're discussing -- then sorry, but your opinion is less than worthless." - J. Michael Straczynski

It occurred to me that I never wrote about what I did over Christmas. Well that's easy, I spent most of the time playing Mass Effect (which is very very addictive, I played through it twice in 10 days...and there's STILL more to see) and when I wasn't doing that I was playing Star Wars Miniatures with friends.
Oh and there was Voyage of the Damned, which was good. I'd say the best of the three Christmas specials so far. On a related note: Torchwood in less than a week.

So, I wonder if it's too late to get one of those built in time for christmas. It would certainly liven things up a bit ;)

Star Wars Lego for the Wii is rather fun, even though it's just the first two games combined into one. Lightsaber combat does involve waving the Wiimote around, it's not perfect but it's a good taste of what The Force Unleashed will hopefully offer.
Now, Children in Need is about to begin...let's hope the Doctor Who special is near the start.

Daleks are a race of beings from Doctor Who and are one of the most well known villains. Originally from the planet Skaro, the Daleks were once a human like species who mutated after a terrible war with the Thals. They believe themselves to be the supreme beings of the universe and all other life forms must be exterminated. Two Daleks.
Spaced is a British comedy show with Simon Pegg. He meets a friend and they're both looking for a place to live. They find a place and pretend to be a couple in order to rent it. It's a brililant show, lots of references and parodies to movies and other shows, especially Star Wars. A clip.
Spooks is another British show, this time a drama based on a team of spies. It's not at ALL like James Bond, the plots are serious, realistic and they're not shy about covering sensitive issues (but I've always been impressed how they do it well and it doesn't feel like they're exploiting world events). It's also the only show I know of where the main cast is completely replaced in the third series and it only gets better, not worse. Series 6 teaser.
Crusade is the spin off series of Babylon 5. Aliens have released a plague on Earth that will kill everyone within 5 years. The show follows the Excalibur, a ship that's searching for a cure. Unfortunately it was cancelled half way through season 1 so we never find out what happened. JMS has hinted that the cure would have been found early on and the story would have moved onto much greater things.
JMS is how J. Michael Straczynski is commonly referred to online. He even uses it himself. This is the man who created Babylon 5 and the previously mentioned Crusade. A friend and I with JMS earlier this year
X-Com is an old series of games, the first one being among my favourite games ever. The player is put in charge of X-Com, an organisation that has to stop alien invasions (there's one in every game) by managing troops (or starfighters in X-Com Interceptor), researching captured aliens and their technology, building bases and of course...fighting the aliens every time they show up. I can highly recommend it. Now I feel like playing it again... Wikipedia article

Lucasarts announced The Force Unleashed will be ported to the Wii and released early next year (I imagine at the same time as the other formats).
Let's hope they do a good job with it.

Gaming experiment

mood:
contemplative
Yesterday I posted a link to this article and thought about playing something and noting how my actions reflect my personality.
Eventually I played a skirmish match of C&C3, figuring that a game involving tactics and decision making would be the perfect choice.
The results were...interesting and I've been thinking about past gaming sessions, especially multiplayer and skirmish battles in strategy games. I'll have to try running a few more experiments later on today as one isn't enough to judge.

I can't help wondering what my style of play says about me. I think I'll try playing something later and think about my actions and how they reflect my personality.

The reference to TIE Fighter made me smile.

Satisfied and tired
I am fast becoming an excellent Empire at War player...I think.
In the first day of the Outer Rim War 3's second weekend, I played at least 8 games (they can be long and there aren't always people around to play against) and lost only 1 of them.
Let's see if that continues tomorrow, I am too tired to play anymore.
Oh and apparently, I make a very good Sith.
