London Expo

May. 25th, 2008 | 01:09 am
mood: tired tired

So today I went to the London Expo and got to meet four members of the Battlestar Galactica cast.

Alessandro Juliani (Lt Gaeta)
Rekha Sharma (Tory)
Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol)
and of course Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama)

They were all very friendly and it was nice to see them messing around with each other, I could see they really got well. I asked them all to sign the box that my model of Galactica came in. They all said they hadn't seen them before and I said how I bought it at Star Wars Celebration Europe last year.

It was great fun :)

Some other photos include:

Me with Indiana Jones.

Stormtroopers about to be attacked by a Dalek.

And someone had stuck this note on the back of that Dalek.

I took these just after my post about the snow.

Photos

They probably won't be anything special to those of you who get snow every year but you can see what it looks like where I live :)

Interests Meme thingy

Oct. 9th, 2007 | 02:29 pm
mood: working working

Abducted from [info]elise_maxwell: If you comment that you are interested, I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

Daleks are a race of beings from Doctor Who and are one of the most well known villains. Originally from the planet Skaro, the Daleks were once a human like species who mutated after a terrible war with the Thals. They believe themselves to be the supreme beings of the universe and all other life forms must be exterminated. Two Daleks.

Spaced is a British comedy show with Simon Pegg. He meets a friend and they're both looking for a place to live. They find a place and pretend to be a couple in order to rent it. It's a brililant show, lots of references and parodies to movies and other shows, especially Star Wars. A clip.

Spooks is another British show, this time a drama based on a team of spies. It's not at ALL like James Bond, the plots are serious, realistic and they're not shy about covering sensitive issues (but I've always been impressed how they do it well and it doesn't feel like they're exploiting world events). It's also the only show I know of where the main cast is completely replaced in the third series and it only gets better, not worse. Series 6 teaser.

Crusade is the spin off series of Babylon 5. Aliens have released a plague on Earth that will kill everyone within 5 years. The show follows the Excalibur, a ship that's searching for a cure. Unfortunately it was cancelled half way through season 1 so we never find out what happened. JMS has hinted that the cure would have been found early on and the story would have moved onto much greater things.

JMS is how J. Michael Straczynski is commonly referred to online. He even uses it himself. This is the man who created Babylon 5 and the previously mentioned Crusade. A friend and I with JMS earlier this year

X-Com is an old series of games, the first one being among my favourite games ever. The player is put in charge of X-Com, an organisation that has to stop alien invasions (there's one in every game) by managing troops (or starfighters in X-Com Interceptor), researching captured aliens and their technology, building bases and of course...fighting the aliens every time they show up. I can highly recommend it. Now I feel like playing it again... Wikipedia article

Exterminate, Exterminate!, EXTERMINAAAAATE!

On the train back, I was looking out the window...I saw this red brick wall and behind it...The TARDIS!

I'm pretty sure it was being used for production purposes but I don't know what. Unfortunately the train was moving too quickly to get more than a glimpse and I didn't have a chance to get my camera from my backpack.

Oh...and I heard the sound of drums. Or rather, a mum and son were tapping a railing to that familiar beat (far away from any Doctor Who related places). Spooky.

The Empire invades...

mood: tired tired

I'm back!

Yes, I only went for the first day...that was enough really, it was exhausting. Yesterday I also saw the Star Wars exhibition in London, very fun and worth doing. I did some green screen lightsaber dueling there, I've got the dvd so I'll rip that tomorrow.

Today was great fun, 6am wake up but it was needed as I was one of the first in the queue to get in. Apparently it went around the building by the time the doors opened...and this place is HUGE.

Photos:

Everytime I saw this guy, I thought it was really him!

Mara Jade

Thrawn!

"Echo Base, this is Rogue Two"

Mara Jade again but this time, the real one :)

Anyone for a game of Dejarik?

Emperor Palpatine, now this guy was brilliant, he was constantly in character and he could do the voice as well. Just after this photo, a couple approached him and asked him to bless their new born baby. He put his hand on the baby's head and said that he would make a powerful Sith, then started cackling evilly.

Several thousand fans.

Mark Hamill (YES REALLY!)

Ian McDiarmid, he was good too. He pulled his jacket over his head like a hood, switched to Palpatine's voice and said "Happy friday the 13th".

This one is for you [info]ywingempress

I think someone came to the wrong convention

One more photo to come, I need to scan it and I'm too tired to bother with that now.

"It could be a good year for Dalek toys, with an 18-inch remote controlled Supreme Dalek in the pipeline which is ‘self-aware’ in that it can guard an area, can go on patrol, maps his surroundings, follows voice commands and can also find a moving object and track it down. For an additional cost, there will be a version with a built in camera, so you can see what he sees when he’s wandering around the house."

I wouldn't say no to one of those ;)

Daleks in Milton Keynes

mood: geeky geeky

That was a rather enjoyable convention.

I arrived by TARDIS.

I ran into some Wraith, a fellow Sith Lord, Captain Sisko, a Cylon and Nicholas Briggs, who does the Dalek and Cybermen voices in the last three series of Doctor Who. I had a good long talk with him about Daleks, CGI, animation and machinima.

I found a purple Dalek waiting for me by the TARDIS when I returned, which I kidnapped and repainted.

"If the FA Cup semi-final between Manchester United and Watford F.C. overruns due to extra time, the episode will be delayed until the following week. If so, a repeat of The Christmas Invasion will be shown in place of Doctor Who Confidental and Rose will be shown in place of the Sunday repeat on BBC3.[3] Otherwise, it will start 40 minutes later than its normal time."

I am preparing Daleks as I type this...

AccuWeather

AccuWeather (it's a Firefox plugin) has never really lived upto its name. A few days ago it told me it was sunny outside, even though I could hear the rain coming down heavily (and it did that all day).

Now it's saying "Location does not exist" for where I live.

Oh well

Proto

That reminds me of something else I saw today.

A Christian bookshop that had Daleks on display in the window.

For those who don't know what a Dalek is, they're alien creatures from Doctor Who, their single purpose is to find other forms of life and exterminate it.
