Long Films

According to Rocketboom, the longest film title in the English language is "Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2: In Shocking 2-D" and the film with the longest running time is 95 hours!
So I took it upon myself to work the total running time of everything I've ever released. Looks like I still have a way to go: 5 hours and 39 minutes.
( The Breakdown )
Part of me thinks there should be more than that, part of me has a hard time believing I've created so much.
And there are several significant increases coming up ;)

Teaching Moviestorm
Nov. 11th, 2009 | 11:33 pm

On Monday I was approached to lecture on machinima and more specifically Moviestorm at the London Metropolitan University.
So that's what I did today. Came up with a simple but fun scene for the students to create as I demonstrated how and then the idea was to let them get started on their own projects and I could help them out as they needed.
But it turned out Moviestorm didn't want to run properly on those machines. It was to do with the way it was installed on a hard drive with restricted access, the software just wouldn't load up any of the props or characters.
A phonecall to Short Fuze confirmed the theory.
So instead I put Alone up on the projector, played through the film, pausing anytime I wanted to explain a feature of Moviestorm, such as camera focus, the lip sync or rexturing objects. It worked pretty well as a backup solution and most of the students had tried Moviestorm on their own computers at home, so now they should know what to look out for with their projects.
It was strange going in there being the teacher, not the student. Feels like it was just yesterday that I was taking classes :)

Happy Halloween

Here is the Chronicles of Humanity halloween special!
A big departure from previous episodes, it was not made with the Sims but instead Moviestorm. This is a piece of software designed specifically to make machinima without all of the gameplay elements getting in the way and I am really pleased with the results.
The story was originally written 10 years ago (almost to the day, it was October 20th) for school. We were told to write a short horror story and at the time I was really into the Alien films. In the second film, no one believes Ripley's story about an alien that killed her crew, so I took that thought and created a story where you never get to find out if the monster is real or just in the guy's head. I'll let you decide for yourselves ;)
It's also the first time I've done 3d modelling, the corridors of the ship were created in Sketchup and then imported into Moviestorm. I had a lot of fun doing that and want to make more scifi looking pieces for future use.
Enjoy!

Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam!
A very well made animation. There seems to be some mystery about it's origins, it could be fan made or it could be for something official. But then some Star Wars fans tried that a few years ago too, so we'll see :)

For anyone that missed it (like me) during the actual Emmy's broadcast last night, here's the Dr Horrible clip made specially for the show.
tears_of_nienna you were right, this was on Youtube not only before morning (or whatever time you'll wake up since I'm writing this just after you went to bed) but it was around shortly after the Emmy's finished broadcasting.

I was tagged via facebook but I'm posting it here.
Put an (x) next to each film or television series on this list that you have seen. Tally your score and find out how geeky you really are...
If you've seen over 80 of these you are geeky. If you've seen over 120 you are unnaturally geeky. If you've seen over 140 of these you are unhealthily geeky. If you've seen them all...well...touche...

music: Battlestar Galactica - Limited Edition Soundtrack
Yesterday I returned home from Dragon*Con. I've never been to a convention quite like it, the ones we get over here are tiny and pretty dull in comparison.
( Probably the longest entry I've ever written )
Had a great trip, met lots of interesting people and hope to go back next year.

London Film and Comic Con 2009
Jul. 20th, 2009 | 04:53 am
It's been awhile since I last went to a convention. Infact I don't think I've been to one since I met some of the BSG cast early last year.
So yesterday I went to the London Film and Comic Con. While I was there I got to meet Bruce Boxleitner, Jewel Staite, Gary Kurtz and someone I've wanted to meet for quite a while: Tom Baker.
They were all great people and I had met Bruce before but it was good to see him again. I gave him and Jewel Staite a Chronicles of Humanity DVD each. Bruce was very excited to hear that B5 was part of the inspiration behind it. In the photo of Jewel, she is holding her copy while I'm explaining what it is.
Tom Baker was fun, he had a packet of Jelly Babies which he was offering to people. I told him about the Daleks I had seen earlier, he said he would be sorting them out later. Going to have to watch some more of his episodes soon I think ;)
My outfit was a basic Ranger/Marcus costume from B5. For those not familiar, check this out and it will give you an idea.

Bear McCreary

mood:
pleased
Recently Bear McCreary (composer for Battlestar Galactica and Caprica) ran a web design contest for the BSG Orchestra.
So I decided to enter and while I didn't win (part of me is glad since it would involve last minute travel plans to San Diego for Comic Con week, yeah not fun), here's part of the email I was sent this evening:
"We were truly amazed by the high caliber of work you turned in. Bear is so impressed with your design, he would like to offer you Limited Edition - The Best Of Battlestar Galactica - Seasons 1-4 Album. These were made exclusively for, and given to, cast and crew to celebrate the "Battlestar Galactica" Series Finale. Bear has had them under a pretty tight lock and key since then."
Everyone who submitted a design is getting one of those but I am still very pleased.
